The Netherlands is one of the most open and unrestricted countries in the world.  Prostitution is legal in Amsterdam’s famous Red Light district, and women openly solicit customers from the windows of their establishments. Escort services (prostitution to go) flourish and are also legal. Pornography is prevalent. Go to certain bars, and marijuana and hashish are served (interestingly enough, due to an anti-smoking ordinance in Amsterdam, patrons can smoke pot in the bar, but must go outside to smoke a cigarette); prices and potency are usually displayed on a blackboard behind the bar.
50% of adults drink in the United States while about 95% of Dutch adults imbibe.  In many cases children are allowed small amounts of alcohol, and it’s not uncommon for workers in the Netherlands to have a beer or glass of wine on their lunch break.
