“This is not good for Amsterdam because we are not prone to the kind of criminal activities around coffee shops that are going on in the south of Holland,” he said.

Oriental City is right in the middle of one of the main tourist areas in Amsterdam. Located just five minutes from Madame Tussauds on Dam Square, the restaurant sits on the corner of one of the main red light district canals — just down and on the other side from a stretch of cafes, sex shops, red light windows and the Oude Kerk.
This area is not known for good restaurants, with many of the places here over-priced for unfussy tourists. However, Oriental City is popular with both tourists and locals, as well as recommended by several members of the international expatriate population in Amsterdam. So despite being in a location where you often get over-charged and under-fed, we felt it worth a try.
